Athletes should be at the Holiday Inn Express, Vancouver by 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 15th.
Group Travel Arrangements on Thursday, May 15:
There will be a bus (Journey Lines) departing the Everett Rowing Boathouse at 1:00 pm. This should allow athletes to get in at least 2/3 of a school day. Athletes should be at the boathouse at 12:45 pm for an on-time departure. The bus will transport the athletes to the course, where they will rig boats in preparation for Friday racing. The bus will then transport the athletes to the Holiday Inn Express. The cost of the bus is included in the athlete's fees for Spring rowing. As of May 2, there are 8 seats left on the bus. The bus is one-way.
Athletes taking the bus to the regatta are responsible for their own transportation home on Sunday.
Athletes traveling with their parents on Thursday:
If you anticipate arrival in Vancouver at 6 PM, or before, please head directly to the course to rig equipment. If you anticipate arriving after 7:00 pm, please head directly to the hotel.
Volunteers Needed at the Regatta
Each club is required to provide volunteers on Friday morning at the regatta based on the number of athletes they bring. We are asked to provide 3 volunteers on Friday morning between 7:00AM and Noon.
Additionally, for each hour of Volunteer Service throughout the weekend, ERA earns a dividend. This will help defray the cost of our entry fees, which will crest $3,500 at this event. We are assessed a $7 / athlete "Volunteer Fee", which would be good to recoup.
Volunteering at a regatta is a great way to see a new aspect of the sport, as well as help put on a tremendous event. It is a great way to meet other parents, and get more involved with ERA. Training will be provided.
Please consider signing up, especially if you plan on being in Vancouver on Friday morning. Signups are administered by the LOC (Local Organizing Committee) at: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0E4EACA92FAB9-20141
All athletes need to have a current USRowing membership to compete at this regatta. According to my current roster, the following athletes need to have their USRowing Membership upgraded from "Basic" to "Championship" or renewed.
Alexander, Anthony, Beran, Bird, Boston, Brickman, Brown, Bumstead, Buse, Byrne (Gillian), Campbell, Cross, Cruz, Dearing, Edson, Fatkin, Freeman (both), Glickman, Hammerman, Haynes, Ingram, Hitterdal, Kerby, Knibbe, Lindgren, Mackie, McManis, Miedema, Morales, O'Hare (Emily), Olsen (Alex), Osborne, Pountain, Sanders (Madison), Smith, Soylu, Upenieks, Weber, Win, Wright (Fiona), Wright (Rebecca).
Will be announced later this week. The LOC will process all the entries and then release the schedule. We will send out lineups and the schedule, which of course, will be subject to change.
: Athletes are limited to 2 events at this regatta. This is in order to keep the size of the event manageable. The regatta has grown over the past 10 years; the limit allows us to complete the regatta in normal as well as inclement conditions.
This regatta will be the final regatta of the spring season for most athletes. Varsity Boats, (Varsity 8, 4, 2-, 2x, Lightweight 8) that place in the Top 3 Crews of the NW District are invited to the National Championships. The USRowing Youth National Championships will be held in Sacramento, CA this year from June 12 - 15.
Club policy is that the "Boat" is qualified to attend the regatta. The Rules of Rowing state that up to 50% of the athletes in the qualifying boat may be switched prior to competition at the Championship Regatta. Athletes may be changed for a variety of reasons, including injury, illness, behavior or in the event that another athlete makes the boat go faster. If an athlete qualifies multiple boats, the coaching staff will decide which boat will represent Everett Rowing at the Championships.
This course is high in irritating allergens. If parents or athletes suffer from Hay Fever, please be prepared with antidotes. Also, most of the course is visible from the finish line.
