Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Novice Rower?
Novice is defined as a rower who has less than 12 months of rowing experience. It is intended for rowers entering their first spring season and have not engaged in a 2,000 meter sprint race on the water before.
Can anyone take a rowing class?
Yes. The Learn to Row classes are open to anyone ages 12 and older. The adult (also called masters) team is open to anyone aged 18 and over and who has graduated from high school. The youth (also called junior) rowing program is geared towards participants ages 12-18. ERA offers two youth programs: The Middle School Team is open to participants aged 12-14 and the High School Team is open to participants aged 14-18.
What should I wear to class?
Nothing too baggy. Rowing garb is the same type of clothing as cyclists and runners. Tights and spandex are ideal. Shorts, sweats, yoga or athletic pants are fine. Layering is a great idea.
Do I need to provide my own equipment?
All of the rowing equipment is provided by the rowing program. All rowers are recommended to bring a bottle of water, a gym bag to store belongings (an extra set of socks and clothes, etc), tennis / running shoes are preferred over sandals, and any medications you need, especially inhalers.
What if I have to miss a class or practice?
It’s OK to miss a class, but we encourage people to attend as many as possible to provide for the continuum of learning and because the Learn to Row class is team-oriented.
Where do we meet for class or practice?
At the boathouse. The address is: 300 Smith Island Road, Everett, WA 98201
